AVGI POURGOURA · FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR
For Avgi, imagination has never been something she could switch off. Ideas appear everywhere, and once one takes hold, she can’t help wondering what it might become.
Her love of theatre began as a child actor. She went on to study Theatre & Performance at the Guildford School of Acting and completed an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In 2026, she received the Artemis Pouroulis Culture & Arts Award at the CYDIA Awards.
Having known theatre from both sides of the stage, she understands the particular feeling of becoming part of something unexpected. Genome Theatre grew from a desire to share it: to invite people to be curious, to play, and to rediscover a little of the wonder we so often leave behind as we grow older.
For Avgi, the greatest reward is seeing something that once existed only in her imagination become a memory that belongs to someone else.
